◆ Fun kayaking at “Fukuura Hakkei”
Niigata prefecture has a very long coastline, but the fun places to kayak are quite limited. The waters of Kashiwazaki, including Kujiranami, is a scenic spot with a series of strange stones called “Fukuura Hakkei” since ancient times. It is a pleasant sea with many highlights while kayaking. Fukuura Hakkei has a total length exceeding 10 km. The places of interest are well dispersed, each one having its own personality, so it is very suitable for sea kayaking.
◆ You can row out right in front of the Odakeya Ryokan!
A sandy beach is in front of the Odakeya Ryokan parking lot, so you can row out as soon as you unload the kayak form your car. There is a washing area and a shower beside the entrance of the inn, where you can wash the kayak and let your body relax with a hot water shower. Anyway, it’s conveniently close to the sea! You can store the kayak in the garage and row again the next day.
◆ Sea kayak + Fun activities
Each place has its own way of enjoying – that’s also a charm of this area. Fishing from the sea kayak, snorkeling, searching for sea life in the rocks, landing on the rocky areas and beaches along the way, you can find as many things to do as our time and stamina will allow for this unique sea kayaking experience.
◆ Surprisingly calm waters
Please discard the image “Niigata = Sea of Japan = Rough waters.” Winter aside, the sea is calm and warm from spring through autumn, and there are also many sea creatures so it’s perfect for enjoying the sea while kayaking! The sea is friendly enough for the beginner of sea kayaking. In the spring you may be able to meet a pod of dolphins chasing sardines!
◆ Also close to Kanto(Tokyo)!
The famous places for sea kayaking in Niigata Prefecture are Sadogashima Island, Awashima Island, and Sasagawa Flow, and Kashiwazaki! Among them, Kashiwazaki has by far the easiest access to the Kanto region(Tokyo). If you get off at the Yoneyama IC on the Hokuriku Expressway, you will reach the Kujiranami Seaside in 5 minutes. You can go out to sea without taking a 4 hour one-way train ride.
◆ Recommended times are from spring to early summer, and autumn!
You can enjoy the area around Golden Week when the temperature rises, but the sea gets warmer in June, and you can start swimming late in the month. From mid-July to mid-August, the beach is very crowded. Because the kayak is difficult to get out, rental in this period is closed. You can enjoy sea kayaking again from the Bon Festival until mid October. In the spring and autumn, we also offer a great accommodation plan with cheap rental by booking in advance.
【If you are kayaking at Odakeya Ryokan, even beginners can have a fun and safe time!】
Families, couples, and group trip are also welcome! Our “sit on top” type kayaks are great for beginners! They are two-seaters with good stability and are very easy to use. Even if you’ve never gone kayaking before, training only takes 15 minutes. Families can also ride with a child between two adults. We offer various courses every day depending on the weather, sea conditions, physical fitness, and skill levels.

Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your weblog
and wished to mention that I have truly enjoyed surfing around your weblog
posts. After all I will be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again very soon!
Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a
sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was
a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to
tell someone!
